The Smith School of Business at Queen’s University invites applications for up to two Postdoctoral Fellow in Business Economics (PDFBE) positions in the Business Economics unit. Each appointment will last for two academic years.

We are particularly interested in applicants with research interests in industrial organization and organizational economics, but other fields of applied microeconomics are encouraged to apply. The PDFBE will work under the supervision of Dr. Ricard Gil and Dr. Henry Schneider.

The PDFBE will be expected to live in Kingston and fully participate in the academic life of the Business Economics unit, the Smith School of Business, and Queen’s University. The PDFBE is expected to be independently motivated to execute high-quality research and to collaborate in developing research ideas with faculty. The PDFBE is also expected to teach in the undergraduate Commerce program, but with an efficient schedule that compresses any teaching into one term with limited preparations. There is also potential to teach graduate courses if interested.

Qualifications

The successful candidate should have recently completed or be nearing completion of a PhD in economics, business economics, quantitative marketing, or a related field. ABD candidates must complete their PhD within one year of the start of their appointment.

The main criteria for selection are research and teaching excellence. A candidates’ potential contribution and commitment to EDII (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Indigeneity) at the School will also be considered.

Business Economics group

The Business Economics group is comprised of strong researchers with expertise in organizational economics, industrial organization, contract theory, international trade, and applied microeconomics. The group employs both empirical and theoretical approaches. Group members have been highly successful in publishing in top economics and management journals. Compensation

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The City

The University is situated on the traditional territories of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe, in historic Kingston on the shores of Lake Ontario. Queen’s University is an integral part of the Kingston community, with the campus nestled in the core of the city, only a 10-minute walk to downtown. The effective date of the appointment is July 1, 2023, but is flexible.
