TABE/CABE Webinar – New Tools of the Trade From forecasting to foresight—exploring plausible futures for better economic insights

December 6, 2024

TABE and CABE are pleased to announce the next session in our webinar series: New Tools of the Economists’ Trade.

This webinar explores how economists can expand their toolkits with strategic foresight techniques. Foresight can help economists identify early warning signals of disruptions to the economy, create forecasts that are robust to potential seismic shifts in the economy, and identify possible gaps in economic analysis. Garima Talwar Kapoor, Director of Policy Research and Insights in Ontario’s Ministry of Children Community, and Social Services will discuss how her team uses strategic foresight to uncover subtle trends in the macroeconomic landscape that can have significant impacts on the ministry’s programs and people it serves. Robin Shaban, Fellow at the Public Policy Forum and board member of TABE, will discuss their upcoming study with the Forum for the project titled All-In: Pathways to Economic and Financial Inclusion for Canada. The study used strategic foresight to reconceptualize the tough challenges of economic exclusion and poverty and discover new and novel policy solutions to tackle them.

Join us to learn about these innovative approaches in economic research and analysis!
