Senior Policy Advisor, International Economic Analysis Department, Bank of Canada

Lena Suchanek was appointed Senior Policy Advisor in the International Economic Analysis Department in May 2020. In this capacity, she is part of the leadership team that guides and manages the work of the department. She conducts analysis on economic issues of importance to monetary policy and contributes to the Bank’s participation in international meetings.

Ms. Suchanek first joined the Bank of Canada as an economist in the International Economic Analysis Department in 2007, before moving to the European Central Bank in 2010. She returned to the Bank of Canada in 2011, later joining the Regional Analysis Division at the Quebec Regional Office, where she held increasingly senior positions. Between 2018 and 2020, she was Director of the division and was responsible for directing and managing the economic analysis activities of the Bank’s five regional offices (Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Montréal and Halifax). This work included carrying out and publishing the quarterly Business Outlook Survey, conducting economic analysis and supporting the Bank’s communications strategy. Her primary research interests include extended monetary policy tools and international economics.
