Join the Ontario Student Challenge and tackle one of Canada’s most pressing policy issuesβimproving productivity across industries, businesses, and communities. RBC estimates Canadaβs annual productivity gap with the U.S. has widened to $20,000 per person[1]. Your innovative ideas could shape the future of Canada’s economy!
π’ Whatβs the Challenge?
Canada is facing a productivity gap, and we need creative solutions to boost efficiency, competitiveness, and growth. Weβre calling on students from Ontario colleges and universities to propose groundbreaking ideas in any of the following areas:
π§ Technology & Automation
How can tech innovation transform industries into becoming more productive?
π Workforce Development
How can we upskill workers to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving economy?
π± Sustainability & Efficiency
Can we improve productivity while staying environmentally conscious?
π’ Business Innovation
What new strategies can businesses adopt to stay competitive?
π§ Investing in Enabling Infrastructure
How can investment in enabling infrastructure help accelerate productivity growth in industries and communities?
Who Can Participate?
β¨ Open to all Ontario university and college students. Whether you are studying economics, business or public policy, your unique perspective is valuable!
How to Enter:
- Form a Team: Gather a team of 2-4 students. Student challenge is open to individual submissions as well.
- Develop Your Solution: Identify a specific productivity challenge and propose a creative, impactful solution.
- Submit Your Proposal: Present your ideas in a detailed proposal with potential for real-world application. Your submission should be no longer than 5 pages or 2,000 words.
Prizes:
π₯ 1st Place: Free annual TABE membership + Mentorship with an Industry Leader for a year
π₯ 2nd Place: Free annual TABE membership
π₯ 3rd Place: Free annual TABE membership
All finalists will also have the opportunity to showcase their ideas to top industry professionals and gain national recognition!

- Application Opens: November 1, 2024
- Proposal Deadline: February 24, 2025
- In-Person Finalist Presentations: March 26, 2025

- Identifying the issues (20%)
- Providing a policy recommendation (20%)
- Identifying the channels through which the policy will work to address the issue identified (30%)
