AAAE Hybrid (virtual): AI and the Modern Productivity Paradox
In 1987, Robert Solow famously observed that “you can see the computer age everywhere but in the productivity statistics.” A decade later, productivity growth in the United States accelerated markedly as ICT producing and ICT using industries diffused throughout the economy. This presentation examines whether early evidence suggests that artificial intelligence (AI) may follow a similar general purpose, productivity enhancing trajectory.
Greg Landry
Economist, Planner, and Futurist
Greg Landry is an economist, planner, and futurist with over 25 years of experience in public service. He currently works with NSCC’s Office of Learning and Transformation and previously served as Strategic Foresight Lead for the Government of Nova Scotia, where he built organizational capacity to help leaders navigate uncertainty and design future ready public policy. He studied Nova Scotia’s long standing productivity and technology adoption challenge for more that two decades and is now closely examining the implications of AI for productivity growth and workforce transformation.
