MABE Scholarship 2025-2026
MABE SCHOLARSHIP IN ECONOMICS
THE PRIZE
The Manitoba Association for Business Economics (MABE) awards $1,000 to the recipient of the MABE Scholarship in Economics.
CONTEST OPEN DATE:
The contest opens October 1, 2025.
CONTEST DEADLINE:
Applications must be submitted by November 30, 2025 to MABE@CABE.ca.
AWARD DATE
The scholarship will be awarded no later than the end of February 2026.
Preferably the award will take place at an in-person MABE Event, so the winner gets to meet MABE members and receives their award.
Eligibility
Candidates must be enrolled full-time at a post-secondary institution in Manitoba, in:
- their third, or fourth year of an undergraduate degree, or
- their first or second year of a graduate degree (Masters or PhD).
Note: Past winners are not eligible to win again.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants will be considered based on academic achievement and strength of their submitted essay.
Scholarship application packages must be submitted to MABE@CABE.ca by January 31, 2025, and include the following:
- one of the following:
- A letter of referral from a professor of economics at a Manitoba post-secondary institution, or
- An academic transcript with proof of current enrollment at a Manitoba post-secondary institution.
And
- A short essay (500 – 1,000 words) of the candidate’s vision for the future of Manitoba’s economy; [1]
- Please submit in Microsoft Word or PDF formats.
- You have a lot of scope for writing an essay within the topic area. Thus, papers on unrelated topics will NOT be considered for this contest.
- The essay should be well written, with an introduction, a body with proper paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph. Please, no point-form or flow of consciousness blobs of writing.
- Use whatever citation style you prefer when citing sources.

[1] For example, macroeconomic, regional economic, microeconomic, urban economics, transportation economics, energy transition, labour markets, and policy ideas are all welcome.
- You may consider the role of policymakers, businesses, exporters, households, and/or other key stakeholders of the Manitoba economy.
- It helps to understand some of Manitoba’s economic and export statistics, and to use what you have learned in your economics courses to research and write a short essay.
