OEA Student and Young Professionals Panel
The Ottawa Economics Association is hosting a virtual career panel featuring senior economists from across the National Capital Region who bring extensive experience in the hiring process. This session is designed to provide students and early-career professionals with a transparent look at how candidates are evaluated. Panelists will discuss the specific competencies currently in demand, including the integration of data science tools like Python and R with traditional economic analysis, and how to effectively communicate technical research to non-specialist decision-makers.
The discussion will also address strategic career transitions, offering tailored guidance for those moving from academic to professional environments. Participants will gain insights into navigating the unique labour market landscape of Ottawa-Gatineau. By focusing on the practical application of economic theory, the panel aims to equip the next generation of economists with the actionable intelligence required to stand out in a competitive job market.
