TABE/CABE Webinar: Geopolitics Series – Canada’s Oil & Gas Outlook — Geopolitics, a Grand Bargain, and Alberta’s Path Ahead
Canada’s oil and gas sector remains central to the country’s economic resilience and strategic positioning—especially as global rivalries intensify and energy security returns to the forefront.
The outlook is increasingly being shaped by volatile global prices driven by geopolitical events in Venezuela and Iran, as well as infrastructure and market-access constraints, evolving industrial and climate policy. At the same time, uncertainty in North American relations—including the upcoming CUSMA review—raises the stakes for trade, investment, and continental energy and supply-chain security.
Peter will explore how geopolitical realignments and shifting US policy are reshaping the landscape for Canadian hydrocarbons; assess strategic risks and opportunities for Alberta and Canada (from investment and market access to security-of-supply); and outline what the sector may need from governments to compete—potentially including the contours of a pragmatic “grand bargain” between industry, policymakers, and communities. He will also examine the evolving role of the private sector in driving innovation, investment, and credible pathways to long-term competitiveness. Current affairs will be considered.
This session is part of TABE’s “Middle Power, Major Stakes: Canada in the Era of Geopolitics and Global Rivalry” series.
This session is being organized and moderated by Natasha Apollonova with the series being organized by Alex Ciappara – both TABE Board members.
