
Dr. Sebastien Betermier
Associate Professor of Finance, Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill UniversitySebastien Betermier is an Associate Professor of Finance at the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University. He holds a PhD in Finance from the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley. His research focuses on portfolio management and asset pricing, pension funds and retirement systems, household finance, and sustainable finance. Sebastien’s work has been featured in top finance journals and major publications such as the Economist, the Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times, and Bloomberg. He is also the Executive Director of the International Centre for Pension Management (ICPM).
Sebastien teaches courses on applied investments and pension funds and retirement systems at both undergraduate and graduate levels. He has been recognized for his teaching excellence, receiving the Desautels Distinguished Teaching Award in 2016 and 2020. He founded and serves as Advisory Board member of the Sustainable Growth Initiative at McGill, and he is also a member of the Pension Administration Committee at McGill and the Research Policy Network on Household Finance at the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR).
