Dr. Emile Dirks is a postdoctoral fellow at The Citizen Lab at The Munk School, University of Toronto. His research on policing and biometric surveillance in China has been covered in the New York Times, The Economist, and The Intercept. Previously, Dr. Dirks served as a fellow at the Mercator Institute for China Studies, a research associate at the London School of Economics, and a visiting scholar at Yunnan University. In September, Dr. Dirks testified before the Congressional-Executive Commission on China on the topic of digital repression and religious freedom in China.
